Statement on “Peace” Plan

For immediate release

The Proposed Peace Plans diminishes American leadership and invites more violence and instability across Europe.

The American Ukraine Committee strongly rejects the recently proposed peace plan for Ukraine. While framed as a path toward ending the war, the plan would neither stop the fighting nor save lives. Instead, it would invite more violence, embolden further aggression, and destabilize Europe for years to come.

“Instead of a 28-point peace plan dependent on Russia good will, American should propose and enforce a 1-point plan: Stop the Russian bombing of Ukrainian civilians.” Said Jed Sunden, Director of the American Ukraine Committee.

“No one wants peace more than Ukrainians, who have endured the brutality of Russia’s invasion,” said Jed Sunden, Director of the American Ukraine Committee. “But a peace imposed under coercion—one that rewards the aggressor and disregards Ukraine’s democratic will—will only increase the killing, not end it.”

We are deeply concerned that the proposed deal pressures Ukraine to accept terms that undermine its sovereignty and national security. Any plan that allows Russia to hold stolen territory or use a pause in fighting to rearm guarantees only one thing: a larger, deadlier war in the future. A peace that collapses as soon as Russia chooses to violate it is no peace at all.

We call on Members of Congress, U.S. allies, and all supporters of a stable and secure Europe to reject any agreement that compromises Ukraine’s ability to defend itself or leaves Eastern Europe vulnerable to renewed aggression. Upholding Ukraine’s sovereignty is not just a moral imperative—it is essential to the security of the United States and the entire democratic world.

Ukraine has proven itself a steadfast and valuable partner of the United States. After nearly four years of full-scale war, and more than a decade of resisting Russia’s aggression, Ukraine cannot afford a rushed or one-sided deal. The United States must continue working with Ukraine to secure a just, lasting, and enforceable peace—one that stops the killing, deters future invasions, and strengthens global security.

America is stronger when it stands with its allies. Now is the moment to remain firm, not to retreat. The American Ukraine Committee will continue working with Congress and the administration to ensure that U.S. support for Ukraine remains unwavering, principled, and focused on achieving real peace.
