Ukraine Advocacy Successes: A Big Week in DC
The American Ukrainian Christian Alliance held its Ukraine Week advocacy event in early February. The American Ukraine Committee was a proud financial sponsor of the event and assisted with organizing meetings with Congress for its delegates.
Their advocacy was focused on religious persecution by the Russian army in occupied Ukraine. Tragically, not a single Ukrainian Catholic Church remains in Russian-occupied Ukraine, and dozens of Evangelical Ministers have been arrested and tortured.
Newly Introduced Bill
Last week, Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC2), a Ukraine Champion, and Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced a bill connecting sanctions on Russia to religious persecution in occupied Ukraine.
Congratulations to the advocates who travelled to Washington and brought attention to this issue.
Ukraine Action Summit
Additionally, last week marked the 8th Ukraine Action Summit organized by the American Coalition for Ukraine. Over 700 delegates from all 50 States took part in over 400 meetings with Congress. The Summit is already showing results with over 20 new co-Sponsors signed onto the Peace Through Strength Against Russia Act, a key sanctions bill.
Additionally, the ACU got behind legislation developed by the American Ukraine Committee calling for investment into Ukraine Defense Tech via the Defense Innovation Unit of the Department of War.
The American Ukraine Committee adapted this idea from the US-Israel Defense Partnership Act of 2025, which called for the Defense Innovation Unit to invest in Israeli Defense Tech.
The American Ukraine Committee has met with numerous Congressional offices on this issue since the beginning of the year. The Ukraine Action Summit continued the work on promoting this bill to different offices.
